Drone cleaning versus scaffolding: what project teams should consider

A realistic comparison without exaggeration: where each method leads, and where they coexist.

Scaffolding remains necessary on many projects, particularly where physical contact, mechanical abrasion or parallel repair works are required. Drone cleaning does not replace those cases.

Where the task is purely surface cleaning and the geometry allows it, drones may reduce installation time, occupation of public space and personnel exposure to working at height.

Project teams should compare whole-cycle cost rather than day rates: permits, pavement occupation, operational disruption, insurance and reinstatement time.

On some projects the optimal answer is hybrid: drones for extended surfaces and targeted conventional access for specific details.
